Inventory Financing in Greeley, Colorado

Inventory financing pays for stock before it sells, with the goods themselves usually securing the deal. It suits retailers, wholesalers and distributors whose cash is tied up on shelves and in warehouses. In short

Snowvale Business Capital, a small-business funding broker in Greeley, Colorado, arranges inventory financing through lending partners for Weld County retailers and wholesalers. The partner advances part of the value of the stock you buy, takes a lien on that inventory, and is repaid as goods sell or on a set schedule. Partners value the stock and set every term.

How inventory financing works

You pick the stock, the partner pays for part or all of it, and the inventory becomes collateral. The partner does not lend the full retail value: it estimates what the goods would fetch if it had to sell them, and advances a share of that figure. Repayment comes from sales, either as each batch sells or through scheduled installments over a set period. When the stock is sold and the balance cleared, the lien on that inventory ends or rolls on to the next order.

What partners will and will not finance

Partners favor goods that hold their value and resell easily: branded retail stock, parts, building materials, packaged goods. They are more cautious with perishables, fashion items that date quickly, and anything custom-made for one customer, because those are hard to sell if the business cannot. Seasonal stock is a common case: a partner will usually want to see how the same season sold last year before funding this year's order. Work-in-progress and raw materials for manufacturing are financed less often than finished goods.

Liens, reports and inspections

Most partners record a UCC financing statement against the inventory, which is a public notice of their interest. Some also ask for regular stock reports, periodic counts or visits, and they may limit which other lenders can take a claim on the same goods. Read these reporting duties before you sign: missing a report can be a breach even when every payment is on time.

Inventory financing or factoring?

The two are often confused. Inventory financing is secured by stock still waiting to be sold. Factoring is the sale of invoices for goods or services already delivered, at a discount, to a company that then collects from your customers. Factoring is not one of the six funding types Snowvale Business Capital arranges. If your cash is tied up in unpaid invoices rather than stock, working capital financing or a business line of credit may be the closer fit.

Getting a stock purchase ready for review

  • the supplier's quote or your purchase order for the new stock;
  • sales history by product line, ideally for more than one year so seasonal swings show;
  • how quickly the stock usually sells (inventory turnover);
  • current inventory value and any liens already filed against it;
  • business bank statements and recent financial statements.

A clear sell-through estimate does more for a request than an optimistic one. Partners compare your history with the order you are proposing.

Short answers

Questions and Answers

Short answers to the questions owners ask first.

How does inventory financing work?

A partner pays for some or all of the stock you buy, holds a lien on that inventory, and is repaid from sales or on a set schedule.

Is inventory financing the same as factoring?

No. Inventory financing borrows against unsold goods. Factoring sells unpaid invoices to a third party. We arrange inventory financing, not factoring.

Can a retail store finance its inventory?

Yes, if the stock resells readily. Partners look at sales history, turnover and the type of goods before deciding.

How do I finance inventory for a new store?

Partners usually want some sales history before financing stock, so a store that has not opened yet may find fewer options. Supplier terms, owner capital or advice from the Colorado SBDC are worth exploring first.

What happens if the stock does not sell?

You still owe the balance. Depending on the agreement, the partner may require payment on schedule or take action against the inventory it holds a lien on.
