Snowvale Business Capital, a small-business funding broker in Greeley, Colorado, arranges equipment financing and leasing through lending partners for Weld County contractors, restaurants and medical and dental practices. Equipment loans, leases and equipment finance agreements are repaid over the asset's working life, with the equipment as security. Partners decide and set rates and terms.
| Structures | Equipment loan, lease, equipment finance agreement (EFA) |

| New or used | Both; partners look at age, condition and resale value |
| Bring | A vendor quote or invoice and recent financials |
| Weld County context | 1,204 construction, 447 restaurant, 466 ambulatory health care employers (CBP 2023) |
| Our role | Broker only; partners decide and set terms |
Three ways to finance equipment
| Equipment loan | Lease | Equipment finance agreement | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who owns it during the term | You, with the partner's lien | The lessor | You, with the partner's security interest |
| At the end | You own it outright | Return it, renew, or buy it (fair market value or a nominal buyout, per the contract) | You own it outright |
| Payments | Principal plus interest | Lease payments | Fixed payments set by the agreement |
| Often suits | Long-lived assets you will keep | Gear that ages fast or will be replaced soon | Owners who want ownership with a simple fixed schedule |
Tax treatment differs between these structures; ask your tax adviser, because we do not give tax advice.
New or used equipment
Partners finance both. With used equipment they look harder at age, hours, condition and what the item would resell for, and the term may be shorter. A dealer invoice or a written quote from a private seller, with serial numbers, makes the review easier. For a private sale, check that the seller owns the equipment free of any lien before money changes hands.
What Weld County businesses finance
The county's largest sector is construction, with 1,204 employer establishments in 2023, 873 of them specialty trade contractors such as electricians, plumbers and concrete crews (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Their requests are mostly skid steers, compact excavators, trailers, lifts and specialty tools.
The same 2023 data counts 447 restaurants and other eating places, whose requests run to ovens, fryers, hoods, walk-in coolers and point-of-sale systems, and 466 ambulatory health care establishments, including 113 physician offices and 100 dental offices, which finance imaging equipment, dental chairs, sterilization units and practice software.
Work vans and pickups for contractors
Vehicles used for the business, such as a plumber's van, an electrician's pickup with a rack, or a box truck for a remodeling crew, can be financed much like other equipment, with the title recording the partner's interest. Partners usually ask how the vehicle earns its keep and whether it will be used mainly for business.
Soft costs: delivery, installation and training
The price of equipment is rarely the whole bill. Delivery, rigging, installation, electrical or plumbing work, software set-up and staff training can add a meaningful amount, especially for kitchen lines and clinical equipment. Some partners include these soft costs in the financed amount and some do not. Ask before you sign the vendor order, so you know how much has to come from cash on hand.
What partners review
- the vendor quote or invoice, including make, model, year and serial number;
- business bank statements and, for larger requests, tax returns and financial statements;
- credit history for the business and the owners;
- whether you can make a down payment, which some partners ask for and others do not;
- for used items, an appraisal or condition report.
Before you sign
- End-of-term terms: on a lease, is the buyout fair market value, a fixed figure or a nominal amount? Get it in writing.
- Insurance and maintenance: most agreements require you to insure and maintain the equipment at your cost.
- Early payoff: ask what ending the agreement early would cost, in dollars.
- Total cost: add up every payment, any down payment and the buyout, and compare that figure, not just the monthly payment.
Loan, lease or line of credit?
For a single large asset, an equipment loan or EFA is the usual route; a lease suits equipment you expect to replace. Smaller, frequent purchases may sit better on a line of credit. Our guide to equipment loans, leases and credit lines compares the three, and the equipment loan calculator lets you test a loan quote against a lease. A building or project rather than equipment points to a term loan.
