Business Term Loans in Greeley, Colorado

A business term loan delivers one lump sum for a defined purpose and is repaid in scheduled installments over a fixed term. It suits projects with a known price: a remodel, a second location, a large purchase or replacing costlier debt. Snowvale Business Capital, a funding broker in Greeley, CO, explains the mechanics before any partner sees your request.

Snowvale Business Capital connects you with lending partners; partners make credit decisions and set rates and terms.

How a business term loan works

You receive the full amount at the start and repay it in regular installments, usually monthly, until the balance reaches zero at the end of the term. Each payment covers interest on the remaining balance plus a slice of principal. The partner sets the term, the rate (fixed or variable) and any charges, and states the total of all payments in the agreement.

Amortization without the jargon

Early in the term, more of each payment goes to interest, because the balance is at its largest. As the balance falls, the interest part shrinks and more of each payment reduces principal. That is why paying off a loan early saves more interest in the first years than in the last ones, if the agreement allows it without a penalty. Ask for the amortization schedule with any offer; it shows the balance after every payment.

Projects that suit a fixed schedule

  • A build-out or remodel, such as a second treatment room, a larger kitchen or new shelving and counters.
  • Expansion: a second location, a larger shop, or the staff and fit-out a new contract requires.
  • Buying out a partner or acquiring a competitor's book of business.
  • Refinancing several costly short-term balances into one scheduled payment, if the numbers work out lower in total.

Machinery and vehicles are often better placed on equipment financing, where the asset secures the debt and the term follows its useful life.

A first term loan for a small employer

Most Weld County employers are small. Of the county's 7,454 employer establishments in 2023, 4,150 (55.7 percent) had fewer than five employees and another 1,284 had five to nine (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). For many of them a term loan is the first structured debt on the books, and the review is more detailed than for a card or a supplier account. Expect partners to ask for two or more years of tax returns, year-to-date financial statements, a debt schedule and a short description of how the project pays back.

Covenants and early payoff

A covenant is a promise in the loan agreement that lasts for the whole term: keeping a minimum cash balance, sending financial statements each year, not taking on other debt without consent. Breaking one can be a default even when every payment is on time, so read them as carefully as the price.

Can a business loan be paid off early? Often yes, but some agreements charge a prepayment penalty, and some calculate interest so that early payoff saves little. Ask the partner to show, in dollars, what payoff would cost after one year and after two.

What partners review

  • business and personal tax returns, and current financial statements;
  • bank statements showing revenue and balances;
  • cash flow against the new payment, often expressed as a debt service coverage ratio;
  • collateral, and whether the owners will sign a personal guarantee;
  • that the business is in good standing in Colorado's records (the Colorado loan guide shows where to check).

Approval criteria belong to each partner.

Where SBA loans fit

SBA-backed loans, such as those in the 7(a) program, are term loans made by participating lenders and partly backed by the SBA. SBA loans are outside the six types Snowvale Business Capital arranges, and we are not an SBA lender. If you want to explore that route, the SBA Colorado District Office and the free advisers listed in our Northern Colorado resources guide are the places to start.

Term loan or line of credit?

Choose a term loan when the cost is known and one-off. Choose a business line of credit when costs repeat or their size is uncertain. Some businesses carry both: a term loan for the build-out and a line for the months after it.

Short answers

Questions and Answers

Short answers to the questions owners ask first.

How does a business term loan work?

You receive a lump sum and repay it in scheduled installments of interest and principal until the balance is zero at the end of the term. The partner sets the term, rate and conditions.

What is a loan covenant?

A condition in the agreement that applies for the life of the loan, such as reporting financial statements or keeping a minimum balance. Breaking one can count as default.

Can a business loan be paid off early?

Usually, but check the agreement for a prepayment penalty or interest method that limits the savings. Ask for the payoff figure in dollars.

Can I use a term loan to expand my business?

Yes. Expansion with a known budget, such as a new location or larger premises, is one of the main uses. Partners will want to see how the expansion pays back.

Does Snowvale Business Capital arrange SBA loans?

No. We are not an SBA lender. The SBA Colorado District Office lists participating lenders and programs.
